The Turkish-Georgian border is now the fulcrum of an East-West highway of immense geopolitical importance to the West that must now be reinforced with security ties. Georgia in NATO would be one of the most significant steps. It would stabilize Georgia and enhance security throughout the region. Therefore, it is in NATO’s interest to have Georgia as an ally. Indeed, Georgia already behaves as an ally in NATO operations. And Georgia has already accomplished impressive reforms. NATO’s further expectations should be wrapped into a Membership Action Plan for Georgia during 2008 —and Turkey should take the lead in explaining why. Please click here to read the text in full
