Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ) is an Istanbul-based quarterly journal dedicated to fostering original thinking and constructive policy debates on Turkey and its neighborhood. In its efforts to continue pushing the boundaries of discussion and encourage lively and informed exchanges, TPQ is inviting submissions for its online debate section.
Content Requirements of a Debate Piece
a) The submission should be a response to or critical analysis of a TPQ print article;
and/or
b) A contribution to an ongoing debate. For ongoing debates, see: http://turkishpolicy.com/debates
Style Requirements
Debate pieces must be original (no reprints) and in English – we strongly recommend non-native speakers have their articles edited by a native English speaker before submitting to TPQ – this will greatly increase the likelihood of the piece being published.
In your debate piece, briefly state the reason this particular article was chosen for review/analysis and briefly summarize the thesis of the article in question (3-4 sentences). The main body of the piece should be opinion-driven, focusing on counter-arguments to the author and offering a new angle to ongoing debates.
Submissions should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words.
Given that this is not a full-length article, please limit repetition of words and arguments. Lively, policy-oriented language and style are favored.
Format: The piece should be submitted in Times New Roman 12, justified.
Spelling: American spelling and punctuation should be used throughout.
Citations: Use endnotes, following the Chicago Manual of Style. Citations should be used sparingly given the word length requirements.
