The Government needs to inform and educate the Turkish electorate on what the new NATO is, on what it can and cannot do. NATO remains firmly with Turkey in combating terrorism and has a lot of understanding for Turkish security interests. The Turkish government should also continue its efforts to motivate and inform the public about the benefits of pursuing full EU membership. It must also move ahead with reform. The Alliance and Europe need a capable, reform-oriented and internationally active Turkey.
