United States President Barack Obama will visit Turkey in April 2009. On his agenda will be a number of issues of mutual concern between the two NATO allies. One issue that should be placed high on the agenda is the expansion of the East-West energy corridor and Turkey’s role in providing the requisite political and commercial security to bring the Nabucco project to fruition. This would not be the fi rst time the U.S. and Turkey played a critical role in energy security. A decade ago, they championed the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Today, the strategic partnership should focus on playing such a role again.
