Considered to be merely reactionary at the beginning of the past century, Turk-ish foreign policy has undergone an important transformation in the past decade, making Turkey an influential actor in regional as well as world politics. As a result of this transformation initiated by the AKP government, observers have noticed a shift in Turkey’s foreign policy from the West to the East. However, as this article will try to demonstrate, neither is the West an alternative to the East, nor is the East an alternative to the West.
